Metamorphic library armchair converting to library steps

A metamorphic library armchair in richly figured wood, closing as a scroll-armed chair and opening to a flight of library steps. Closed, it shows a broad curved crest rail over a spiral-turned cross rail, a caned seat under a buttoned leather squab cushion, and sabre legs on brass castors. The frame hinges over to present four treads inset with tooled leather, joined by heavy brass hinges and fastened by a brass catch at the lowest step.
