A large carved wood seated lion with dark-stained mane, on castors

A large lion carved in wood, seated on its haunches with jaws open and the teeth and tongue picked out against the dark of the mouth. The mane is deeply cut in long locks, stained near-black at the crown and shoulders and shading into the honey-brown of the polished body. The whole rests on small metal castors fitted beneath the paws and base. Old shrinkage cracks and splits are visible in places, in keeping with its size and age as seen.
