Cream and Gilt Rococo Console Table

A cream painted console table in the rococo taste with gilt highlights. The shaped grey veined marble top sits on a gilt edged frame above a deeply pierced apron of scrolling acanthus and carved flowerheads. Cabriole legs with applied flower rosettes end in scroll feet and are joined by a shaped cross stretcher rising to a carved acanthus plume at the centre, while the back rail is plain and flat for standing against a wall. Paint and gilding are rubbed with small losses in places, and old age cracks are visible in the carving.
